‘WA Jobs First’ Plan Enacted in Western Australia

The McGowan Labor Party, elected into power on March 11th, have announced through the Department of Training and and Workforce Development of Western Australia on March 14th that effective immediately, new applications for the Regional Skilled Migration Scheme (RSMS) Subclass 187 is suspended until further notice. A review of the Western Australia skilled migration list (WASMOL) is also being undertaken.

What changes will this bring?

While this order is in effect, no new applications can be accepted for the RSMS Direct Entry stream in Western Australia, as certified by Skilled Migration Western Australia (SMWA). In addition to the RSMS Subclass 187 visa, nominations are also currently suspended for the Skilled Regional visa Subclass 489 and Skilled Nominated visa Subclass 190, pending the findings of the WASMOL review.

Who will directly be affected?

Businesses and employers hoping to bring foreign nationals in on the above-mentioned visas, as all applications are suspended until further notice, and no timelines have been announced.
