Australian visitors to Brazil can now enter on the Visa Waiver Program
The Brazilian Government has announced that effective June 17, 2019, Australians visiting Brazil for business meetings, tourism, and sporting activities do not require a visa, and will be admitted via the newly created Visa Waiver Program. The same convenience has also been afforded to citizens of Canada, U.S. and Japan.
Travellers may stay no more than a cumulative total of 90 days in any 12-month period, commencing from date of the first entry. The decision is unilateral, and Brazilian citizens have not been accorded the same visa waiver provision by the Australian government at this time. It is recommended that passports have a minimum of 6 months’ remaining validity when entering a country via the visa waiver program.
For those intending to reside in Brazil or involved in undertakings requiring work authorisation, prior application must continue to be made for the appropriate visa.
