Updated Australian Skilled Occupations List revealed – March 2019
The Australian Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) has released a new Skilled Occupation List, effective as of 11 March 2019. This introduces changes to both the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and the Medium to Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
The following visa subclasses were affected by the changes:
- Subclass 482 – Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa
- Subclass 186 – Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa
- Subclass 187 – Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Visa
- Subclass 407 – Training Visa
- Subclass 485 – Temporary Graduate Visa
- Subclass 189 – Skilled Independent Visa
- Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa
- Subclass 489 – Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa
The changes to the popular TSS visa scheme include:
- Six occupations relocated from the STSOL to the MLTSSL: artistic director, arts administrator or manager, choreographer or dancer, footballer, music director and tennis coach
- Two occupations added to the MLTSSL: pressure welder, telecommunications network planner
- Five occupations added to the STSOL: clothing and footwear mechanic, chemical plant operator, library technician, watch and clock maker and repairer, visual arts and crafts professionals (Not elsewhere classified)
- Two occupations added to the ROL: deer farmer, goat farmer
- Sixteen occupations relocated from the STSOL list to the Regional Occupation List (ROL): anesthetist, dentist, and several farming-related occupations
The changes to the relevant lists include some caveats, and employers are advised to check carefully or seek advice from immigration professionals. All March 2019 changes will not be applied retrospectively.
